Bylaws

A California Non-Profit Corporation

 

Article I- Name

 

The name of the organization shall be C. A. Jacobs Music Boosters and any abbreviated name (CAJ Music Boosters) or acronym (CAJMB) by which the group may be known.

 

The principal office of this corporation in the State of California shall be located in the city of Dixon, County of Solano.

 

Article II- Purpose

           

Section 1.  The purpose of the C. A. Jacobs Music Boosters is to provide support to the C. A. Jacobs Band program.  The primary function of the organization will be to provide financial support to the band program through fund raising.  Another important function of the organization will be to provide an opportunity for parental involvement in the band program. 

           

            Section 2.  It is the responsibility of the C. A. Jacobs Music Boosters is to uphold the rules, policies and education mission of C. A. Jacobs Intermediate School and Dixon Unified School District. 

 

Article III- Membership

           

Section 1.  The C. A. Jacobs Music Boosters must accept new members without regard to race, color, creed, religion, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, age, gender, sexual orientation or disability. 

 

            Section 2.  All parents of CAJ music students are considered CAJ Music Boosters.

 

 

Article IV- Officers

 

Section 1. The Music Booster Officers shall consist of the following positions; Band Director, President, Vice President, Secretary/Publicity and Treasurer.

 

 

 

 

Band Director

 

The band director shall perform all of the duties outlined by the Dixon Unified School District job description for the band director position.  In addition to those duties, the band director will oversee the operation of the C. A. Jacobs Music Boosters.  The band director will lead the process of nominating and electing officers. The band director will set the band calendar for the year.  The band director will have the final approval on all decisions regarding the band program.

 

President

 

The C. A. Jacobs Music Boosters president shall serve as the liaison between the band parents and the band director.  The president will remain in regular contact with the band director and consult the band director on all events, plans and agendas for the band program and the C. A. Jacobs Music Boosters.  The primary role of the president will be to run C. A. Jacobs Music Boosters meetings.  The president will coordinate parent involvement for all events for the band program.  The president will give a C. A. Jacobs Music Booster update at each of the band concerts. 

 

Vice President

 

The C. A. Jacobs Music Booster vice president shall serve as an assistant to the president.  The vice president will also assist in coordinating parent involvement for all band events.  The vice president shall preside in the absence of the president. 

 

Secretary/Publicity Coordinator

 

The C. A. Jacobs Music Booster secretary shall serve as a liaison between the community and the band program.  The secretary will work with businesses, organizations and individuals in the community to gain support for the band program.  The secretary will mail out or email invitations to band events and send thank you letters to businesses and individuals supporting the band program.  The secretary will also record meeting minutes and details. 

 

Treasurer

 

The C. A. Jacobs Music Booster treasurer shall serve as the primary account holder of the C. A. Jacobs Music Booster checking account serviced through First Northern.  The treasurer will stay in contact with the band director to pick up funds to be deposited and drop off requested checks.  The treasurer will keep the C. A. Jacobs Music Booster checking account balanced and up to date.  The treasurer will keep detailed receipts and records of all financial transactions. 

 

Section 2. Officers shall be selected in the spring of each year for the next academic year.  Nominations will occur during the April meeting and the election will occur during the May meeting.  A majority vote will be required to obtain an officer position.  In the event of a tie, a run off election will be held. 

 

Section 3.  The term of office shall be one calendar year.  The term will start and end on the last scheduled day of school each year. 

 

Section 4.  To be qualified for an officer position, the individual must meet the requirements for membership in the C. A. Jacobs Music Booster organization.

 

Section 5.  In the event of a vacancy, a special election will be held for that position unless the officers vote to leave the position vacant until the next round of elections.  The band director also has the authority to appoint a member of the organization to cover the duties until the next election.

 

Article V- Finances

 

            Section 1. The ultimate responsibility for financial obligations of the C. A. Jacobs Music Boosters rests with the band director and the officers of the organization. 

 

            Section 2. The organization will utilize a checking accounting with First Northern Bank.

 

            Section 3.  The primary account holders on the checking account will be the elected treasurer and the elected president of the organization. 

 

Section 4.  If the C. A. Jacobs Music Boosters shall become and remain inactive for a period of 2 consecutive years, all funds in the checking account belonging to the C. A. Jacobs Music Boosters will be transferred to the school band account held at C. A. Jacobs Intermediate School.

 

Article VI- Quorum and Meetings

 

            Section 1. In order to determine a verdict on motions, a simple majority of the members voting on each motion will be required.  (At least one-half plus one)  All votes may be cast in person or via electronic methods (email, website, etc.)

 

Section 2.  Meetings will be scheduled by the band director and or president.  Meetings will be posted on the C. A. Jacobs Band website. 

 

 

Article VII- Method to Amend the Bylaws

 

            Section 1. Amendments to the C. A. Jacobs Music Boosters Bylaws will require a majority vote. 

 

            Section 2. Proposed amendments to the Bylaws will be sent out to all members via email and posted on the C. A. Jacobs Band website at least one week prior to the vote. 

 

Article VIII- Statement of Conflict

 

            Section 1. In the event of a conflict between the C. A. Jacobs Music Boosters Bylaws and the C. A. Jacobs Intermediate School / Dixon Unified School District Schools Policies and Procedures, the C. A. Jacobs Intermediate School / Dixon Unified School District Policies and Procedures shall supersede.
